Is summer over? It's a wee bit sunny outside, but as I am indoors complaining about my manflu I don't classify this as a summer's day. Summer is when I am lying on the grass in Kelvingrove Park eating strawberries, and I've only done that a few days so far this year... Anyway, Monday is the long-planned and necessarily anticlimactic (because it's taken all bloody summer to get around to having it) social gathering! 7pm at the Hillhead Bookclub (just off Byres Road). Please bring any ideas for tempting people into joining GUPS during freshers week. http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=152166398134665 So far we've booked a lecture theatre to have an introductory talk in, we'll need volunteers to take down lists of new members here. We're going to get flyers printed to advertise this and the society in general. There are plans to build a camera obscura to hang around the main building with, even if it's just a big empty box with "KAMERA OBSKURA - COME HAVE A LOOK INSIDE!" written on it. Inside, I will be waiting to club the hapless freshers and claim membership fees. If we want to do anything interesting this year, we need members and we need money. Basically this is the best chance the PhotoSoc has this year of being able to pick up lots of new members for the coming year. That means more people to talk to, more people to pay membership monies and generally make the PhotoSoc more than a half dozen guys down the pub. We *need* volunteers to hand out flyers! This would be primarily during Fresher's Fair on the 14th and 15th of August next week. We've booked the Humanities Lecture Theatre (in the Main Building) for 2pm on the 15th to do a wee talk and collect membership details, so we'd also need a few people to help out at that time. If you will be free at any time on the 14th or 15th (or other times next week you think would be useful) please get in touch and we'll meet up on the 14th/15th or give you a bunch of flyers beforehand. Message-ID: Hello all, We're on for the Titan Crane this weekend! Meeting 2pm outside the Main Gate of the University. This is the gate which has cars going through it in front of the Main Building, just across from the library. We'll be meeting at 2pm this Saturday and departing sharply, walking down to Partick railway station, getting the train to Clydebank (fare should cost significantly less than ?5, website is vague but suggests ?2 and something) and walking to the Titan Crane from Clydebank railway station. Tickets to get up the crane cost just ?2.50 with our group discount. More photographically-learned members may wish to join me in sitting at the back and heckling. Apologies for the short notice, I forgot to send out this email till now! For those new to Glasgow: the Boyd Orr Building is the second-tallest monolithic concrete ugly thing in the middle of campus, dwarfed only by the library.
